Mutant Mark

After participating in a spontaneous storytelling panel moderated by Raul Aguirre Jr. at the San Gabriel Comic Book Expo I was inspired to bust out a quick 6 panel comic. I came up with some characters and sketched out a quick story just to see what I could come up with in 45 min. It was a fun exercise in storytelling and spontaneous creativity. I think I'll be doing more of these.
So here is what I came up with.

The Avengers Nursery Paintings

At the end of 2012 I received a call from a good friend who was expecting his first baby. He wanted to commission 5 paintings for his new born’s nursery. When he told me the theme was going to be The Avengers I was in. He and his wife wanted the characters painted as babies, four individuals (Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America) and one group painting. I was very excited to put my own spin on these iconic characters and to help a good friend put together a kick ass nursery for his first child.

Here are the finished pieces in the nursery

My Friend Robert and his son Jackson

I had a great time painting these and it warms my heart to see my friend’s reaction to them.
I am so honored to have my art in little Jackson’s nursery.

Life Drawing 3-2-13

I was able to get out today and do some life drawing. Drawing people in public is one of the most uncomfortable and awkward things for me to do, but I feel I learn so much from doing it. I love sketching in a loose and expressive manner while making quick decisions to capture a posse. It's often a frustrating experience that results in a lot of indecipherable scribbles.

The uncomfortable part is looking like a pervert while staring at people, the disappointment on peoples faces when they see the stick figures I am drawing, drawing on a postage stamp sized sketch book, and the inability to find a comfortable position to draw. It's all part of the experience and I feel I get a lot out of it, so I deal with it.

These are some of the better drawings that came out of todays session, the rest look like a 3 year old got a hold of my sketchbook.

Catching Up with Daily Sketches

It's been a while since I have posted on my blog. I had a big commission project come up in the beginning of the year which I am finishing up. I will be focusing all my attention into creating the 3rd issue of Forever Freshman the next few months (FINALLY!). I am still doing these daily sketches I just haven't been posting them here, but I am going to try and get back into the habit of doing so. I do however post all my sketch on instagram, so you can always check that out (@neilsegura).

So here are a few of my favorites daily sketches from the last few months. I have strayed away a little from using post-it notes just to change it up. I still use them I'll just not as much. Well enjoy and I'll see ya next week.
